Kelli McCarty who was Miss USA 1991 and is almost 40 years old- made a shocking career move this past month when she announced she was leaving mainstream acting to pursue a career in the adult film industry. The headlines read “From Beauty Queen to Porn Star!”. What would Donald say? Kelli played Beth Wallace also known as crazy Beth on Passions. She was responsible for the show’s most popular storyline where Beth buried a pregnant Sheridan in a hole and then stole her baby. For the last couple of years on the show Kelli’s closest co-star was an Orangutan who lived with her character as caretaker for Beth’s ill mother. Kelli was on a radio show recently and she talked about working with the primate and had some funny annectdotes to share. You can listen to the interview HERE

I heard about Kelli’s career move while watching TMZ- here is the story as they broke it:
My thoughts on Kelli’s career move. Well- first off she is an adult. And as an adult Kelli McCarty is one of many many many women trying to make a living as an actress. The truth is that there are only so many jobs out there- the economy has been rough on all sectors including Hollywood. Kelli looks great but she has not managed to do much since Passions ended. I think her decision to do porn while she still has the body and the looks is smart from a financial stand point.
In the radio interview above she talks about moving into producing porn and making movies that showcase adult themed entertainment from a woman’s point of view. The truth is- there is a market for porn that women can stand watching. Red Shoe Diaries ran for years on Showtime- and many women tuned in. The Wonder Years star Fred Savage in a memorable talk show interview years ago talked about his mom watching late night Cinemax movies and how he was stunned to find out how many women watched the late night soft porn on cable. Kelli herself worked for Playboy making videos before her work on Passions- if she wants to look at how a woman can make money in the entertainment industry for years after retiring from life in front of the camera- moving behind the camera is always a good move.
The adult industry is not where most women would turn- but hey- different strokes for different folks. She isn’t hurting anyone and it is kind of nice to see a woman who you know is over the age of consent taking her clothes off. One of the big complaints about the porn industry is how it takes advantage of young women - well Kelli is no kid. If she thinks this will help her with the next stage of her career and is happy and sucessful- I say good for you!
