The rules of dating do not apply when you’re looking for love in the Big Apple. In this unconventional romance starring Scott Porter (TV’s “Friday Night Lights”), Alexis Bledel (TV’s “Gilmore Girls”), Bryan Greenberg (HBO’s “How to Make it in America”) and Andrew McCarthy (The Spiderwick Chronicles), The Good Guy takes dating to a whole new level with its DVD and digital download debut from Lionsgate. Fans of (500) Days of Summer should get ready as this “sharp, fun” (The Hollywood Reporter) romantic comedy will have audiences raving with delight. The DVD features an audio commentary with writer/director Julie DePietro and actress Alexis Bledel. Being an ambitious young New Yorker, Beth (Bledel) wants it all: a good job, good friends and a good guy in which to share the city. As such, she tries to dive right into the dating world. Everything seems to be moving along successfully when Beth meets Wall Street Tycoon “Mr. Perfect” Tommy (Porter) and falls hard. But soon enough, dating proves to be much more cutthroat than she thought when nice guy – and Tommy’s co-worker – Daniel (Greenberg) comes into her life as well, and things quickly spiral out of control. Not everything is what it seems, and Beth’s heart is the only thing at risk. Throw your dating guide out the door and expect the unexpected with this charming film about love and war.

Review of The Joneses by Kate Blake, Admin TheEntertainmentHotline

The movie The Joneses starring David Duchovny and Demi Moore hits DVD and Blu-Ray on August 10, 2010. This is one I give a big thumbs up.
The movie is part dark comedy, part romance and lots of drama. Not your typical family drama- the titular Joneses are not your typical family. Steve, Kate, Mick and Jenn Jones move to town and take up residence in a very upscale neighborhood and they seem to have everything. Their house is filled with impeccable decor items from the Ethan Allen furnishings down to the Chef Robert hors d’vors they serve at their big housewarming party. The viewers learn from the outset that the family is actually a sales team. They are all recruited and paid to play a part and get people through their influence to buy buy buy. The concept is brilliant and the execution daring. Human nature naturally gets in the way of complete success and the morals of spending beyond ones means is brought close to their home. David is charming – his role as Mr. Jones reminds me quite a bit of his undercover role as Rob Petri on the great X-File episode Arcadia where he and Scully go undercover in suburbia. Demi Moore looks fantastic and her character Kate is very quiet and holds her emotions inside. The Jones children have their own issues. Amber Heard’s Jenn likes playing Lolita with older men. Ben Hollingsworth’s Mick is in the closet. Gary Cole is the neighbor Larry Simons who Steve Jones impresses and Larry wants to be like. Gary plays his part with a quiet desperation. No buffoon performance here. You really feel for him and the misery in his suburban life. David Duchovny explained when promoting the movie that it was shot in a real subdivision outside of Atlanta that went belly up with foreclosures when the housing crisis hit so they were able to move in and shoot without building any sets. What you see onscreen is a real neighborhood- one that is probably pretty much empty today.
