HIMYM Star ‘Neil Patrick Harris Interview: How He’ll Spend the Super Bowl

Saturday, February 4th, 2012

When the New England Patriots take on the New York Giants at Super Bowl XLVI on Sunday, Neil Patrick Harris will be cheering one of the teams on, but not because he’s a big fan. Harris, who’s an invited guest of CBS president Les Moonves, revealed that the choice is much more practical.

“Seeing that the box that I’m in is gonna be pro-Patriot, I’m gonna head to that direction so I’m not kicked out of where I’m sitting,” Harris told omg! in an interview. “But I do co-reside in Harlem. New York is in my neighborhood, so I support it.”

After growing up in New Mexico, where he played tennis in high school, and then moving to L.A. — cities without their own NFL team — NPH said he’s rarely watched football games live. He’s more likely to be checking them out on TV, where he can watch instant replays and the analysts’ notes. The “How I Met Your Mother” star had a fantasy football team for a few years but quit when he realized he was becoming so obsessed with each player’s individual performance that he wasn’t really paying attention to the actual games!

Well, most everyone will be paying attention to this weekend’s matchup, whether or not they’re sports fans. They’ll be checking out the halftime performance by Madonna as well as the much buzzed-about commercials, one of which will feature a product Harris is promoting — M&Ms. Earlier this week in L.A., he introduced a new M&Ms character, Ms. Brown, although he noted that his favorite color of the chocolate candies is “green for obvious reasons.”

After the Super Bowl, the 38-year-old will return to his CBS sitcom gig playing the womanizing Barney Stinson. Harris insisted that even seven seasons into “HIMYM,” and after becoming quite the family man himself, with fiance David Burtka and 2-year-old twins Gideon and Harper at home, he still enjoys playing someone’s who’s the opposite of settled. But does he think Barney will ever stop playing the field? “There’s no way for me to know,” NPH said. “I’m aware of a little bit of information, but we still have a whole season and a half yet left to go. It doesn’t seem like it’s in his DNA to settle down for long.”

Harris explained that while he signed an eight-year contract at the beginning of the show’s run, he would probably be willing to stay on longer. “I would love to do it for as long as they would have us and with that being said, for as long as it’s still funny and still makes sense,” he said. “I’m pretty convinced that as the years pass we’ll all look back on this job as one of those great, once-in-a-lifetime jobs.”

Catch Neil Patrick Harris in “How I Met Your Mother” at 8 p.m. ET/PT Mondays on CBS.

Take A Look>> Jason Segel Honored As Harvard University’s Hasty Pudding Club’s 2012 Man Of The Year

Jason Segel Honored As Harvard University’s Hasty Pudding Club’s 2012 Man Of The Year

Saturday, February 4th, 2012

Jason Segel may be a Los Angeles homey, but the “How I Met Your Mother” funnyguy is rooting for Tom Brady [stats] and Co. tomorrow night in Super Bowl XLVI.

Patriots [team stats] 34-27,” predicted Segel, who was perhaps pandering to the posse of his Newton relatives who were sitting in the front row last night when he was toasted and roasted as Harvard’s Hasty Pudding Theatricals’ Man of the Year.

“This is a very prestigious thing and it’s very fun, but half of the reason that it meant anything to me was that my whole family lives here,” Segel, clad in a blue velvet tuxedo, told the crowd.

In fact, “The Muppets” star and co-screenwriter is related to iconic haberdasherMr. Sid!

“Mr. Sid’s has the finest suits, sweaters, anything you need, they’ll tailor it,” Jason sold the audience.

During last night’s performance, the 32-year-old comic actor, wearing the obligatory bra stuffed with mini Muppets, sang a rousing rendition of “The Rainbow Connection” while wearing a Miss Piggywig. He also can do a heckuva Kermit voice!

Before last night, the Left Coast boy availed himself of everything Cambridge and Boston had to offer.

“I’ve gone to Tommy Doyle’s three nights in a row,” Segel told the Track. “That’s my favorite activity.”

He also hit Bukowski Tavern with his BFF, “Knocked Up” director Judd Apatow. He also dined at Radius. And last night, he chowed with the Pudding people atUpStairs on the Square, where he ordered up the Salad of Hearty Winter Greens with Pink Naval Oranges and Pistachio Vinaigrette and the Charcoal-Grilled Prime Sirloin, prepared rare “to maintain my figure.”

When asked what he would do with his newly acquired pot, Jason gave the answer you’d expect from a slacker who has starred in such flicks as “Knocked Up” and “Forgetting Sarah Marshall.”

“You’re not supposed to fly with it,” Segel joked. “They say you can put it in the shoe. Or hide it in the carry-on.”

Um, we were referring to your Pudding pot.

Josh Radnor Will Assume Narrator Duties in ‘HIMYM’ Series Finale

Friday, February 3rd, 2012

“How I Met Your Mother” is yet to meet its end this season, but a scoop from its series finale has been unveiled. Executive producer Craig Thomas recently revealed that Josh Radnor will take over the narrator duties from Bob Saget in the final episode of the show.

Gushing that it would be “the most awkward transition in series television”, Thomas added that the Ted Mosby depicter will be seen in some makeup because the baton passing would be set far into the future. Saget, who has been narrating the show since the first season, has never appeared in front of camera.

“When I watched the end of the last Harry Potter [movie] I had such respect for what a problem that was to just jump ahead and look so much older, [because] we might be staring into the barrel of a makeup situation at some point,” Thomas shared on the challenge they’ll face.

The series finale aside, “HIMYM” is currently having its best season so far. The seventh season garners the best ratings they’ve ever been, up 19% from last season. It additionally has the youngest average audience on the network’s primetime schedule. Commenting on this, Thomas told The Associated Press, “There’s almost no scientific explanation and we couldn’t have counted on that.”

How I Met Your Mother Star Radnor Goes Back to School

Thursday, February 2nd, 2012

Two years ago, a tiny movie from a first-time filmmaker about a group of young, attractive New Yorkers struggling to balance their various romantic entanglements and impending adulthood, surprised festivalgoers by winning the coveted Audience Award at Sundance. Written and directed by Josh Radnor, best known as the lead on How I Met Your Mother, the hit CBS sitcom,HappyThankYouMorePlease won over audiences in Park City, Utah. And his sophomore feature, Liberal Arts, elicited a standing ovation at the press and industry screening I attended.

Based in part on Radnor’s time as an undergrad at Kenyon College, and shot on location at the Ohio school, Liberal Artstells the story of Jesse (Radnor), a 35-year-old college-admissions counselor who’s trapped in a state of arrested development. When his second favorite college professor, Prof. Hoberg (Richard Jenkins), asks him to return to college for his retirement ceremony, Jesse finds himself on a journey of self-discovery involving an enchanting young sophomore, Zibby (Elizabeth Olsen), who harbors a crush on him; a hippie with some sagelike advice, played by Zac Efron; and his fiery former British romantic literature professor (Allison Janney).

Sundance Channel sat down with Josh Radnor to chat aboutLiberal Arts, his own college experiences—first at Kenyon College, and then at NYU—if he’s ever romanced a much younger woman, and how much longer How I Met Your Motherwill last.
