You could have knocked me over with a feather this week when Chris Colfer hit the publicity trail to promote Glee and revealed he is from Clovis, California. Where is Clovis you ask? Well it is contiguous with Fresno in the heart of the central valley in California. Clovis is a mid-sized, very middle class town with a cute downtown main street and annual rodeo that is the highlight of the town’s annual festivities. It is these modest beginnings that the very talented Chris Colfer comes from. My own family is firmly rooted in Clovis so I know it well. On a clear day when you look to the east the Sierra mountains loom up big and mighty, reminding you that Yosemite is a mere hour and a half away. The area still boasts orchards with all kinds of fruits and nuts as well as plenty other agrarian treats, but there is more to this valley town than just farm fun. Clovis has some of the best schools in the valley- well known for both athletics and academics. And apparently- they can still inspire kids to go into the arts.
