2008 has been an up and down year for Paula Abdul. Paula called it from the earliest days on Idol season 7 that David Cook would be a force to reckon with. Paula released her first single in eons- Dance Like There’s no Tomorrow, she had some typical odd Paula moments during the judging and then made up for it all with her very astute commentary at the finale of season 7′s competition where she was the only judge not to call Archie the winner before the votes were counted.
Paula has been with American Idol since it began – but her roots are in dance and music. She got back to her roots with her dance single produced by fellow Idol judge Randy Jackson.
Behind the scenes of Paula’s Music Video
This summer a new judge was added to the Idol panel- Kara DioGuardi who is a personal friend of Paula’s which should add some balance to the judging panel. This fall Paula had the unfortunate situation of having a woman who has been stalking her commit suicide outside Paula’s house. The woman had managed to get close to Paula after years of being an obsessed fan thanks to Idol producers using the woman as one of the goofy auditions in an earlier season.
This week Paula was on Dave Letterman and Dave said what I think a lot of us have been thinking- Paula’s bosses put her at risk. I applaud Dave for supporting Paula- he himself had a stalker who after years of harrassment finally crossed a line and ended up in jail so he knows what he is talking about and understands the agony of having a mentally unbalanced person focus on a celebrity.
I look forward to another season of Idol and am glad Paula Abdul is part of it. She may be flakey- but the woman can spot talent. She is going to be involved with a new reality series on cable searching for a super cheerleader which should be a lot of fun in 2009.
Best of luck Paula!
